# Rate limits

> How many calls per minute, and how to back off.

Limits apply over a sliding minute, both per credential (an API key or a connected app) and per workspace. Each operation belongs to a class:

| Class | Operations | Per credential | Per workspace |
| - | - | - | - |
| Read | Every read | 120 / min | 300 / min |
| Write | Creating and changing things | 30 / min | 60 / min |
| Agent | Starting the content agent | 10 / min | 20 / min |

Each response carries the budget closest to running out:

```http theme={null}
RateLimit-Limit: 30
RateLimit-Remaining: 12
RateLimit-Reset: 41
```

Over the limit, the answer is `429` [`rate_limited`](https://docs.captureflow.ai/api/errors#rate_limited) with `Retry-After` (seconds). Wait that long, then retry; use the same `Idempotency-Key` when retrying a change.

The MCP server also limits requests to 300 per minute per connection.

Separate daily limits apply to [file uploads](https://docs.captureflow.ai/guides/uploads.md#timing-and-limits) and [content agent runs](https://docs.captureflow.ai/guides/content-agent.md#limits).

> [!NOTE]
>
> If CaptureFlow can't check the limits, agent calls are refused until it can (`429` with `Retry-After: 60`); reads and writes keep working.
